Marc Jacobs Day Fluo Venetia Purse

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Marc Jacobs has got to be on my top five designers list. You all must admit he’s pretty darn creative and skilled at what he does. Most of his handbags are hits in my book, but sometimes, Mr. Jacobs tends to bust out something from who-knows-where. Meet the Day Fluo Venetia handbag by the Marc Jacobs collection. Ok, so maybe this bag is not that bad. (It really isn’t! Worst designs really do exist!) The only dislike on this Marc Jacobs would have to be the tacky color. Yes, I am aware that bright colors are in, but somehow, I prefer highlighter hues marked among my textbooks, not on my handbag! I do adore the bags structure; the Venetia is such an attractive and sophisticated bag, (especially in the metallic leather version). I feel the Day Fluo Venetia failed in not carrying quilted leather. Maybe I’m wrong, now that I think about it; I don’t think the fluorescent color would compliment delightfully with quilted leather.

So what do you all think? Do you ladies think a bags color could either make or break a handbag, overall? Say the Day Fluo were available in the classic shade of black rather than in Acid Yellow, (yes, that’s the colours name), would you find this Venetia more appealing?

Alexander McQueen Elvie Patent Handbag

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Whenever I think of Alexander McQueen, I always seem to think of skulls. If its not the skulls that are coming to mind, then I think of black & white, sleek & simple, or a little bit bad girlish. But I have found recently that there is a lot more to Alexander McQueen than I had originally thought. Net-A-Porter is currently chalked full of brightly colored, Japanese-inspired, and retro-inspired items from Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2008 Collection. Wow! What a shock that was!

So I have pictured above the Alexander McQueen Elvie Patent Handbag for Spring 2008. What I like most about this particular Elvie bag is its bright purple color and slick croco-embossed patent leather. I also like how it feels a little bit retro with its framed styling and turnlock closure. The pleats add a lot of interesting texture as well, on top of the already interesting croco pattern. Since the bag looks kind of small in the regular picture, I have also included a picture of a model holding the bag (Net-A-Porter does not provide measurements). To my surprise, the bag appears to be quite similar in size to a Marc Jacobs Stam. That’s a relief, since this bag retails for $2,150.

BCBG Maxazria Hilary Update Tote

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Having a looooooong day? How about a looooooong tote to go with that looooooong day? LOL! While browsing over at the Saks Fifth Avenue website, I stumbled across this rather interesting looking tote. It’s called the Hilary Update Tote from BCBG Maxazria. See that thing that looks like a gigantic metal flower? That is actually a very large turnlock!

So what can I say about this unique design from BCBG Maxazria? Well, I like the clean lines and their intriguing idea for a turnlock. I love the mustard yellow color! I have actually been craving a bag in a nice mustard yellow color (I just can’t get with that bright yellow trend). And the pockets! I like bags that have easy-access exterior pockets.

Now that we have all the good stuff out of the way, let’s look at the bad. Why on earth is this bag so freakishly tall? I guess tall isn’t a bad thing in itself, but when you pair it with skinny it just looks weird to me. What happens if I were to drop something small down in the bottom of this bag? I’m not sure if my arm would be long enough to reach it! LOL! And since its so narrow, I can’t see it being very practical in carrying work-related necessities. Hmm… somehow I think this bag would be great for carrying a couple of bottles of wine. Picnic anyone?

The BCBG Maxazria Hilary Update Tote features:
Constructed of soft, smooth leather
Double shoulder straps with a 9″ drop
Two outside snap pockets
One interior zippered pocket
Two interior slip pockets
Measures 11½”W X 15½”H X 4″D
Retails for $328

Available at Saks Fifth Avenue where they are currently offering free shipping on all orders over $150.

Marc Jacobs Monica Mink & Python Clutch

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Have you ladies seen this clutch before? It’s called the Monica Mink/Python Clutch designed by Marc Jacobs. As stated in its name, the Monica Clutch is made up of Mink fur and Python pieces. (Now those are two creatures that wouldn’t normally run into each other). When I hear the words Mink and Python, I tend to think “expensive‿, right? Well together, this clutch definitely is! With a retail price of $2,950, it sure is pricey for such a small piece. If you’re interested in the Monica, head on over to the SALE section at SaksFifthAvenue and find this Marc Jacobs on sale for $2,064.90!

The Monica Clutch isn’t really a spring/summer bag (not even close), but it is a true high-maintenance designer piece. What do you ladies think about the Monica Clutch? Either you see this piece as exquisite and extremely luxurious, or you find this clutch a perfect fit for a barbarian. Personally, I dislike it. I feel that it’s a bit too much for my taste. Sure this clutch gives off a grand luxurious vibe, but I just can’t justify myself carrying both mink and python on the same clutch.

Miu Miu Dragonfly Clutch

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

So how do you ladies feel about bugs on bags? Are they pretty? Or creepy? Or pretty creepy? LOL! Pictured above is the Miu Miu Dragonfly Clutch from the Spring 2008 Collection. The clutch features a whimsical dragonfly on the front in pretty hues of pink and lavender. Plus python inserts were used to create some texture and depth. Interestingly, I just now discovered that this clutch also features a metal fold-away handle and a shoe-string strap while browsing over at Net-A-Porter. Its funny really, there have been many times I’ve seen pictures of this clutch and all that time I never noticed it. Oh well, I guess its a good thing that Net-A-Porter provides such detailed pictures, huh?

So you ladies haven’t answered me yet (well, actually you probably have). How do you feel about the dragonfly? Personally, I don’t think this clutch is horrible but I don’t think I would be brave enough to carry it either. I don’t know. I guess it is better than, say, an octopus! So I guess whether you like bugs on bags or you don’t, you certainly have to hand it to Miuccia Prada for her creativity!

The Miu Miu Dragonfly Clutch retails for $1,390. It’s sold out in a lot of places, but you can still find it at: NET-A-PORTER.COM

The Studded Clutch - Renaud Pellegrino vs. Hayden-Harnett

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Lately, I have been seeing a lot of satin clutches. I think satin has such a luxurious feel to it. Yep, satin is what makes the evening bag an evening bag. There’s no arguing that it can make things look so much more dressy and elegant. But what about studs and satin, as in these two clutches I have pictured above? Normally, when you think of studs you think of casual or even a little bad-girlish. But when I look at these clutches, that is totally not what comes to mind.

Pictured on the left is the Renaud Pellegrino Studded Clutch. I love the fancy scroll-like details that are created by the tiny studs. The studs are certainly unexpected, but they aren’t ugly or gaudy. Instead, they are elegant and refined. Plus I love all the colors this clutch comes in (Black, Turquoise, Lime, Fuchsia, Yellow). The clutch measures 10″ x 5″, but there’s also a catch. Yep, you guessed it! It’s the price tag! This baby retails for $995.

The Hayden Harnett Positano Gilded Clutch, pictured on the right, is a more affordable version. The problem with this one though is the studs are bigger and… well… they’re bigger. This clutch is not as dressy looking as the Renaud Pellegrino one, but the price is nice. This one retails for only $110. It measures 12.5″ x 6.5″ too, making it the larger one of the two.

You can find the Renaud Pellegrino Studded Clutch here: Vivre Online Store and Catalog
And the Hayden-Harnett Positano Gilded Clutch can be found here: Piperlime
Plus, don’t forget that Piplerlime offers free shipping and returns everyday!
